New Slow Dancing Society Album Released

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the release of Priest Lake Circa ’88, the eagerly awaited third album by US ambient artist Slow Dancing Society. Following on from the ice-sculpted cinematics of the critically praised The Slow and Steady Winter, Priest Lake Circa ’88 is Drew Sullivan’s finest work to date. In essence, it is the second part of a double album that began with The Slow and Steady Winter, acting as a long-distance conclusion to the double album’s narrative arc.

Praise for The Slow and Steady Winter
“superb sophomore effort by Washington-based Drew Sullivan… Frozen sheets of sound course through the epic ambient settings… which don’t so much showcase guitar virtuosity as they do lyrical beauty… Be sure to play the album loud in order to fully bask in its splendor – Textura

Praise for The Sound of Lights When Dim
“Music is all about moments like this. Moments when you are, unexpectedly, knocked over and stunned into submission by an album that has, quite literally, came from nowhere… The Sound of Lights When Dim is a deeply affecting, consistently excellent effort of stunning tranquility and beautiful ambience, that demands repeated listening” Boring Machines Disturbs Sleep

The album is available now through the Hidden Shoal Recordings online store in both CD and digital formats as well as all good online stores. A full press release can be downloaded here and the album can be streamed in full here.

Tangled Star EP Featured Release and Review at DOA

Tangled Star‘s most recent EP, the gorgeous Our Man In Eden Hill has been selected as a featured release over at the excellent Delusions of Adequacy (DOA) music zine along with a glowing review.

“The band possesses the distinct knack of creating catchy pop songs that hit just the right elements to keep a listener tuned in for a long time. Their latest EP, Our Man in Eden Hill, is a fine reminder of the band’s ability to craft smart, affecting music…. A song like “The Skaters” is evenly balanced with a reflective piano and Hallsworth’s gentle vocals. It’s the kind of song that starts out pleasant enough but can touch your heart in many ways. The sounds recall some of Radiohead’s better chords and progressions (especially the ending) and the music ends up being one of the EP’s highlights because of it….Hallsworth’s voice is reminiscent of Stephen Malkmus but he carries his own distinct timber and when the music swells, so does his voice. He is able to reach high levels of emotion and intensity while still sounding in control… This is a quiet and serene listen, one that can touch people on different levels…” Delusions of Adequacy

The EP is available now for digital download from the HSR Store (where it can also be previewed in full) as well as all good digital retailers. The EP will also see re-issue on CD with the next month so stay tuned for details.

The Slow Beings Debut Album CD Release

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the CD release of the debut album We Know Why The Earth Moves by Perth-based ante-indie rock outfit The Slow Beings.

Out of the ashes of some of Perth’s finest indie bands (The Bamboos, The Rainyard, The Healers, Header and the still-active Tangled Star) The Slow Beings may well be one of indie rock’s new shining lights. On their masterful debut We Know Why The Earth Moves The Slow Beings have managed to channel a range of pop and rock influences into something that is uniquely their own… Shifting from Smiths-esque guitar stylings to driving, hook-laden indie rock and country-tinged indie pop, often during the course of one song… The Slow Beings have an innate knack for re-inventing the edges of indie rock and pop, demonstrating reverence for its form and power yet irreverence in its handling. Press Release Excerpt

Last month I raved about The Slow Beings’ single choice from this album, ‘I Waste The Sea’… It’s a cool opener… The neatly titled We Know Why The Earth Moves holds 10 songs of sparkling indie pop/rock. Magnificent and grand, yet down to earth in sound and attitude… a strong debut. Luna Kafe

The album is available now through the Hidden Shoal Recordings online store in both CD and digital formats and a full press release can be downloaded here.

The CD release comes just two days before The Slow Beings launch We Know Why The Earth Moves at the Rocket Room in Perth, Western Australia on the 28th of June. The band will be supported by the awesome talents of Hidden Shoal Recordings artists, Chris Mason and Toby Richardson.
