Mukaizake Sign to Hidden Shoal Recordings

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the signing of Australian indie math rock marvels Mukaizake to its roster of artists.

Featuring members of legendary Perth bands Umpire, Adam Said Galore and Blue Tile Lounge, Mukaizake combine intricate, dynamic guitar parts, borrowing heavily from math-inspired indie rock, with highly accessible song structures and strong melodic vocals. Their songs feature organic, reactive playing, with a depth and subtlety that is revealed on repeat listens. After a lengthy absence from the Australian music scene, Mukaizake are set to release Unknown Knowns, the stunning follow up to their highly acclaimed 2003 album Mapping the Static.

Unknown Knowns will see its official Australia release on December 11th, 2009 preceded by its US and worldwide digital release on November 17th. The first single to be taken from the album, ‘The Yeah Conditioner’, will be released on October 6th.

New My Majestic Star Single Released

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the release of the new single ‘Crampling’ by Perth-based post-shoegaze outfit My Majestic Star.

‘Crampling’ is a prime example of My Majestic Star’s ability to merge weightless daydream pop with droning shoegaze. The track’s melodies swim in uppers and downers, all the while building and brooding. For the first time the track also features the stunning vocals of the band’s cellist, Miriam Braun, alongside Chris Mason’s distinctively dreamy tones. The single is a wonderful taster for the forthcoming third My Majestic Star album I Haven’t Got It In Me.

‘Crampling’ is available now for free download from the Hidden Shoal Store until the release of I Haven’t Got It In Me on November 27th, 2009. The single will be launched at the Velvet Lounge in Perth, Western Australia on the 18th of September, with support from Turn, Craig McElhinney and Target Archery (Ambrose and Mayuka from Apricot Rail).

Elisa Luu's Chromatic Sigh Pre-Released

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the digital pre-release of the debut album by Rome-based composer Elisa Luu.

Though digitally crafted, Chromatic Sigh is warm, inviting and uniquely human, betraying a vulnerability and sensitivity that is rarely found in the male-dominated sphere of electronica. With its sighing, lilting qualities, Elisa Luu’s music reawakens a sense of childlike wonder and adventure with every sprawling and sparkling track. The album deftly moves in and out of the realms of ambient and electronica, creating a blissful, liminal realm where everything is rendered transformative.

The opening title track is a shifting kaleidoscope of drones, enveloping the listener with its gorgeous metallic haze. Single ‘The Garden’ creates a humid atmosphere of synths and glistening textures, carried aloft by crisp, skittering drum breaks. Melancholic centerpiece ‘Slow Bass Flute’ – which also appeared on debut EP Floating Sounds (Phantom Channel) – is so emotionally weighty that one can’t help but feel humbled in its presence. And album closer ‘Warn Plate’ is the gentle return to terra firma, leaving the listener conscious of having visited somewhere unique, complex and beautiful.

“gorgeous stuff, timid and trembling, frail and fragile – the ice sculptured craftsmanship eking out a beauti-fied solitary elegance much recalling the early career work of Mum… most alluring and lulling stuff” – Losing Today on single ‘The Garden’

Chromatic Sigh is now available in digital format from the Hidden Shoal Store and all good third-party digital music stores (iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, LaLa, etc). As with all new Hidden Shoal releases the album will also be available in lossless formats (FLAC and Apple Lossless). Chromatic Sigh will see its official CD release on the 29th of September and is available now for pre-order through n5Mailorder. Check the Hidden Shoal Store for all availability info.
