Debut Sleeping Me Single Out Now, Free Download Available

Hidden Shoal Recordings has announced the release of the first track taken from American ambient guitarist Sleeping Me’s debut album Cradlesongs.

Cradlesongs is an homage to the bittersweet rise and fall of fortune, the discovery and evasiveness of identity and truth, the acceptance of distance and disappointment, and the poignancy of an ever-elusive yet omnipresent love. This is no more true than for the sublime melancholy that is ‘Legs Like Gravestone’, the first track to be lifted from the album. Elegant, hopeful and infused with a sad beauty, ‘Legs Like Gravestone’ plays out like an elegy to fallen greatness as much as a passage back to the amniotic haze – an eternal return.

Textural and meticulously composed, the emotive ambience of Sleeping Me is a quiet reminder of all the beauty and personal strife that is experienced in solitude. Tidal currents of delayed guitar carry the listener across an ocean of reverb, cast adrift beneath a brooding sky. Each track hands an elusive secret to the next, hinted at but never revealed.

‘Legs Like Gravestone’ is available for free download from the Hidden Shoal Store until the release of Cradlesongs on 26th May 2009. Download a full press release here.

Tangled Star's Our Man In Eden Hill CD Re-Issue

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the CD re-issue of Our Man in Eden Hill by the Craig Hallsworth-led Australian outfit Tangled Star. The re-issue comes ahead of the release of the new Tangled Star EP, That Time, out on June 11th, with a single due in May.

Our Man in Eden Hill sees Tangled Star building on their brilliant debut outing through Hidden Shoal, It’s Now or Later. Musically the EP toys with the frayed edges of country, pop and indie, while in part infusing a sense of space and possibility familiar to fans of the classic Dark Side of the Moon. As with their debut EP, Our Man in Eden Hill’s surface often belies its musical and emotional interior. Through its gentle shifts and directed detours, the EP manages to make once familiar territory foreign and offset.

“The rich, gentle roil of sound evidenced on Our Man in Eden Hill, the band’s third overall release, has the same surging, warmly anthemic sound of stellar forebears galore, each sonically different — the Triffids, Died Pretty, perhaps most inevitably the Go-Betweens — but which altogether seem to capture a sense and a style more than might be guessed, something detailed, mournful, and a little crushing even at its strongest; feedback and background flows of classic keyboards and steady drumming all interplaying behind lead singer Craig Hallsworth’s work. By putting it all together and adding their own touches — the suddenly thrilling funk/psych guitar shades on ‘The Skaters,’ for instance — Tangled Star help make a claim on something more than re-creation.” Ned Raggett, All Music Guide.

Our Man in Eden Hill is now available on CD through Hidden Shoal’s distributor n5Mailorder. The album is also available through all good digital stores, including iTunes, Amazon, eMusic and the HSR Store. Check the Hidden Shoal Store for all distribution and availability details and read a full press release here.
